Drift diving is an exciting and thrilling form of scuba diving that has become increasingly popular in recent years. It benefits from specialized dive training and a higher level of experience than other forms of diving. The PADI Drift Diver Course at Aegir Diving School is the perfect way to learn how to safely drift dive and make the most out of this unique underwater experience.

Drift diving involves riding currents while exploring the ocean depths, allowing divers to explore more ground in less time. This type of diving requires good buoyancy control, trim, and an understanding of the current conditions – making it suitable for certified divers with appropriate skill sets. During their PADI Drift Diver Course at Aegir Diving School, participants will learn how to read local water conditions and use specialized techniques for a safe drift dive exploration.

In this course, students will learn about the different types of drift dives, how to plan out the dive ahead of time using navigation tools, and safety protocols for each type of drift diving environment. We will also train students in proper buoyancy control techniques, so they can enjoy their dives without disrupting the surrounding wildlife or aquatic environment. In addition, instructors at Aegir Diving School are experienced professionals who have been working with divers since 2012 and are available to answer any questions you may have throughout your training. This course consists of the E-learning material as well as two open water dives.

What to Expect in your Drift Diver Course

The PADI Drift Diver Course is a unique scuba diving experience that offers divers the chance to learn how to drift dive safely and effectively, allowing them to cover more ground with less effort in the water.


With this course, divers will learn proper buoyancy control and navigation techniques for drift dives. They’ll also get an introduction to equipment selection, dive planning, risk management, communication, and basic rescue procedures for drift diving. The course emphasizes the importance of conservation and environmental awareness while giving students plenty of time to practice their newfound skills in open water dives. After completing the knowledge development portion of the course, students can expect to take two open water dives under certified instructors’ supervision, where they will have hands-on experience with real-world drifts diving scenarios.

Had a great guided dive with Matt on Rainbow River. He handled entry fees and water taxi, so all we had to do was gear up and enjoy! I rented gear from him, and the gear was in excellent shape. He is super friendly and made sure we got to check out all of the spots along the dive, pointed out animals, and also made sure we were ok along the dive. He was a very good guide. THE BEST!  these guys have been absolutely awesome. My wife and I booked a PADI advanced course with nitrox a year ago. My wife injured herself and we postponed only to have me injury myself right before we were supposed to make up our course. They have been accommodating and so nice.  They helped us get the most out of our nitrox course and e-learning and will absolutely go do our dive with them in the near future. So nice. so understanding. really here to help you learn to dive. Matt was the absolute best. From start to finish of my PADI Open Water Diver Certification and Enriched Air Diver Certification, Matt guided me through my E-Learning and in water dives making me feel confident in what I was doing the entire time.

During a dive I had a painful ear issue canceling our day. Matt kept me safe by calling it, we did troubleshooting and figured out I have a swimmers ear issue and was able to complete my training the next day. He made me feel like I was taken care of and not a burden which speaks volumes about him as an instructor and the knowledge and patience he has for his students.

I started this journey a year and a half ago and struggled with a different dive school/instructor. It took me that long to reach back out to someone because I was very discouraged by my previous performance even though I’m completely comfortable in the water. When I got ahold of Matt he made me feel confident in my abilities and everything literally seemed easy with him as my instructor. We were able to get extra pool time to work on what I thought I was going to have problems with and then that weekend got everything else knocked out at the springs!! Zero issues during training and I am very confident with what I learned and my abilities that I know I now have.
