What is the PADI Full Face Mask Diver Course?

Are you ready for a new experience in the underwater world unlike what you’ve had so far? Aegir Diving School is excited to teach you the PADI Full Face Mask Diver Course to expand upon your diving capabilities and further your scuba diving journey! This course is a perfect compliment whether you are a well seasoned diver or having just received your Open Water certificate. With this unique course you will learn how to use a full face mask allowing you to breathe through your nose and eliminate the need to have a regulator in your mouth. An added comfort benefit is it helps to keep your face warmer by shielding it from the water!

The PADI Full Face Mask Diver Course training consists of three separate dives, and can be completed in just one day! The first dive is done in confined water, where we will look at the changes in buoyancy that take place with a positive pressure mask. The second two are in open water, where you will practice techniques for adjusting your buoyancy and trim, clearing the mask if it floods, and changing to your secondary air source in case of emergency. We do have rental gear providing an opportunity for divers who would like to learn how to use a Full Face Mask prior to purchase.

Benefits of The Full Face Mask Diver Certification

Obtaining a PADI Full Face Mask Diver certification provides you the knowledge and skills to use further your diving experiences. A fantastic benefit in using a Full Face Mask is that it frees you from having to keep a regulator in your mouth, saving you from having your jaw get tired from holding it in place and breathing normally through your nose. In freeing up your mouth, it also opens up your ability to communicate verbally!

Full Face Masks have optional equipment available to them enabling you to talk and listen to your dive buddy clearly, alleviating any stress one might experience if their hand signals are misinterpreted. Clear communication is also helpful if you’re looking to potentially be a working diver such as public safety or scientific studies.

Additionally, full face masks increase your field of vision beyond what a single lens traditional mask allows. They also provide better thermal protection for your face allowing you to stay warmer for longer which you will appreciate in colder water.

Skills: What Are the Learning Objectives For The Full Face Mask Course?

Many topics will be covered during your PADI Full Face Mask course. You’ll learn the different types and features of the masks on the market as well as techniques for proper fitment and maintenance. Your confined water dive will get you comfortable using your mask and practicing skills and familiarizing yourself with it’s features. Then in your 2 open water dives, you’ll develop and demonstrate skills on adjusting and clearing your mask. One of the most important skills that will be covered is how to respond to a mask malfunction in needing to switch to your secondary air source, or how to handle a simulated out of air emergent situation.

For those pursuing their Advanced Open Water Diver certification, this course qualifies as an Adventure Dive so make sure to ask your instructor on how to earn this credit!
